About this Course

Block printing is a very versatile and easy-to-do printmaking process. Materials and tools are easy to use and, with a bit of patience, you can create beautiful prints for cards, limited edition artwork, gift wrap, or dozens of other applications. • In the first class, you will begin with the basics of safety and mark-making on lino blocks. You will learn the full process of designing, transferring, carving, and printing an image. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you will learn how to print your own homemade cards using only an ink roller and a spoon. • In the second class, you will learn how to create a multicolored print. Students will bring back the printing block that they created in the first class and learn how they can add a second colour to their image. Students will also learn the basics of planning multiple printing blocks, mixing coloured inks, and how to properly register colours. • In the third class, students will work together to create a brand-new collaborative work of art. Students will create a new printing block based on a theme, and then all images will be combined into a single group print. By the end of the class there will be enough prints created so that each student will have their own unique print to take home.
