Join us for a 5-day summer camp in partnership with CRD and Science Venture (UVIC). This camp offers a unique opportunity for girls in grades 8-12 to explore STEM fields through daily field trips to various CRD sites, guided by women in STEM. Highlights include: Hartland Landfill: Learn about waste disposal, landfill gas energy production, and environmental monitoring at the landfill. Residuals Treatment Facility: Discover how organic waste is transformed into reusable biosolids. Sooke Lake Watershed: Explore the watershed area, understand water collection, treatment, and distribution, with hands-on water network activity. McLoughlin Wastewater Treatment Plant: Explore wastewater treatment processes and energy efficiency. Elk/Beaver Lake: Study lake ecology, urban impacts, and participate in water sampling. Regional Trails: Learn how active transportation infrastructure is designed and built - explore CRD's multi-use trails! This program provides insights into sustainability, engineering, and environmental science, offering a comprehensive look at the systems supporting clean water, waste management, and ecosystem protection and an opportunity to learn and explore with like-minded peers!
